Hi Mudcatters, In a search for 21st century protest songs, I dusted off this one from Woody Guthrie. You can hear him singing much of it here, with chorus and Sonny Terry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwcKwGS7OSQ My own new verses for the age of racist neoliberalism are: People 'round the world have got a story they can tell, About this new world order making life a living hell, (You're bound to lose, you fascists bound to lose...) Taking people off the voting rolls for having the wrong kind of name, Won't take people long to see right through that racist game. (you're bound to lose...) Don't want to hurt your feelings, don't want to hurt your pride, But right now you've got us headed for a whole world suicide, (you're bound to lose...) To see you going 'round telling lies and making wars, You'd think that people don't know what their hearts and minds are for (you're bound to lose...) So I tried this out last week at Pinewoods camp with the TradMaD crowd. Doing a little searching I found more verses of Woody's as well that aren't on the YouTube version. I wouldn't put in poll taxes or guns but these verses may be adaptable to today as well: Race hatred cannot stop us This one thing we know Your poll tax and Jim Crow And greed has got to go You're bound to lose You fascists bound to lose. I'm going into this battle And take my union gun We'll end this world of slavery Before this battle's won You're bound to lose You fascists bound to lose!
