Retired coal miner Archie Perry, of Jenkins, Kentucky, sang this couplet and chorus in 1976:

Me and my wife and an ol' hound dog
Floated down the river on a hickory log.

Cumberland Gap, Cumberland Gap,
We'll all go down to Cumberland Gap.

I believe that was all he knew, probably learned in the '20s.
