I prefer to think what Joe Bloggs in the street thinks. The technical stuff you're arguing about here is irrelevant to him. If you play an instrument to any level you're a musician. If you sing you're a singer. Walk into any folk club in the land and ask anyone "How many musicians are there in here?" and see how many people include the unaccompanied singers.
