There is a kind of paradox here. If you believe that almost everyone can, and should, sing - which I strongly do! - then hopefully, more people who are inexperienced singers will join a folk club, will have a go, and will gradually improve, with guidance and encouragement from those more experienced. On the other hand - if a lot of people go along to that same club hoping for an evening's entertainment provided by high quality singers, they are likely to be disappointed by hearing so many they would describe as mediocre or worse, and probably won't come back - they'll go to concerts or watch experienced performers on YouTube instead.
