Mick, I do have The Hale and the Hanged; and it is generally recognised that Bobby Campbell's tune was also used for The Shipyard Apprentice, though I've no idea which came first. Thanks GUEST,Starship for the link to the MacColl tune. That is certainly entirely different from both the others. Maybe it is the other "old" tune mentioned in the sleeve notes: and maybe it wasn't so old after all.
