Mysha, The pronunciation of 'burgh' varies with the location and you only really find out you've made a mistake when you get quizzical looks from the natives. Burgh (similarly, borough and brough) can be pronounced at least four ways: burrow, burra, burr and, as it is occasionally in Cumbria UK, bruff. How it sounds depends on where you are, not the spelling. Oh, and Brougham near Penrith in Cumbria is pronounced Broom. Hope this helps. Barry
