Hello there,
I grew up in the southern states of USA and I’ll share with you the way the song was sang to me as a child. However, oddly enough the lyrics are rather inappropriate for a baby, so I did not carry the tradition on down with my own children. But I have a good laugh to myself when I think of the words of this song the way I grew up hearing it. Here it goes:
    HUSH LITTLE BABY

    Hush little baby don’t say a word
    Papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird
    And if that mockingbird don’t sing
    Papa’s gonna buy you a diamond ring
    And if that diamond ring don’t shine
    Papa’s gonna buy you a bottle of wine
    And if that bottle of wine gets broke
    Papa’s gonna buy you a billy goat
    And if that billy goat runs away
    Papa’s gonna buy you a Chevrolet
    And if that Chevrolet don’t run
    Papa’s gonna buy you a BB gun
    And if that BB gun don’t shoot
    Papa’s gonna buy you a swimming suit
    And if that swimming suit don’t fit
    Papa’s gonna say, “Dog gone it I quit!”

Lol! And that is the way I grew up hearing this song.
