For the adolescent, life's a bugger --- it's called puberty. (Some alleged grownups never leave it, cf Agent Orange.) In previous centuries, the poorer ones would have been shoved down the mine or up the chimneys; in these allegedly enlightened days, we give them nothing to do and all day to do it in, then wonder why some of them go *sproing* and disappear into the dustier corners of sanity. The surprise to me is that so few do so, to the extent that someone going *sproing* with lethal results is rare enough to be considered newsworthy.
