Steve Gardham Lyr Req: Fine Sally (Brown Girl???) (21) RE: Lyr Req: Fine Sally (Brown Girl???) 15 Jan 23

Hi Joe,
You do right to add the 3 question marks. The song is not related to The Brown Girl Child 295A; and Child 295 B is a concoction by someone in England. The proof lies in the pages online where you can clearly see how the 2 separate ballads were cobbled together and sent to Child. Anyone interested in following this up can look at the 2 pieces in Child and then look for the connections on The VWML site. I have several copies of The Cruel Nymph (The Brown Girl) late 18th century slips, not found in oral tradition.
