I've read the above with interest. I first heard the song at Cheltenham Folk Festival in 2009 or 2010. Either way, the line 'her eyes were bright and black as night, like jet on Whitby shore' made me fall in love with her too. Such a beautiful line... and, if for no other reason than the song is a true love song, allowing for a tiny bit of poetic and historical licence, I think it's truly gorgeous, and it still gives me chills years later.
