In modern terms, the crown does not mean the king/royal family. It is synonymous with the State. Sorry Doug but that is still not quite true. And it is not nit-picking. If it was the same, why not abolish the term "the crown" altogether and move towards a state where we are not constantly reminded of our place in society? Well below our feudal lords and masters!
