The tune I had in mind (I think) is part of "MacNamara's Band," by O'Connor & Stamford (1889). Related is Fred Seaver's "Solomon Levi" (1885). The tunes are similar to Campbell's but not identical. Campbell's father was a Confederate veteran, but there's no guarantee that Campbell learned the song from him or even before 1889.
