It always puzzles me that expression do you have the guts. I finally came to the conclusion after 40 or more years it was probably related to the term intestinal fortitude. But I don't think so anymore, intestinal fortitude, it seems, has more to do with the fortitude in times of great fear not to vomit or lose control of one's bowels. I think saying do you have the guts is more of a foolish dare, nothing to do with courage, but temping the evisceration of your bowels. | |||
