According to Erwin Ekwall (Dictionary or English Placenames) , "slack" is a shallow valley, from old Norse slakki. Many Yorkshire placenames were influenced by the Vikings (mainly Danish in the east). The East Yorkshire Hunsleys are far too rural to be associated with hell, I suspect it may have been Hunslet. Which was highly industrialised in the 19th century.
