And I may be getting a case of réja vu: Douglas Adams was way ahead of us all, as usual, when he thunk up the Electric Monk, the purpose of which was to believe things for (eg) people who were too busy to have time to research things properly. This caused some inconvenience for Gordon Way in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.
