When it comes to a song about a motorcycle Richard Thompson wins hands down. 1952 Vincent Black Lightning is I believe the most requested song at his gigs.

Anyone old enogh to remember the excrutiating 'Terry', by Twinkle, with the immortal lyric "he rode into the night, accelerated his motorbike, I cried to him in fright - "don't do it, don't do it...etc...etc" will marvel at its creativity. Quite what Terry wasn't supposed to do I never found out, probably change up into second gear or something - whatever, it was too late and the pathetic boyfriend was smeared out when his bike hit a snail crossing the road or some such nonsense.

Someone is right to mention this genre of songs, although not too 'green' today they nevertheless have their place in popular culture. Look at all that great internal coombustion stuff from the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and co.

Sorry, once a motorcyclist always a motorcyclist I think. It's amazing how many you come across on the folk scene...scratch the surface and there's pure Castrol 'R' undernaeth. Two wheels good four wheels bad as Orge Georwell once said.

Back to thread...if you want to place an ad in the UK for these magazines try 'Old Bike Mart', 'The Classic Motorcycle' or 'Classic Bike' in that order.
