Hey Joe You're right, of course. Doc's 4-CD set didn't include Matty ful and was winging it on an obviously faulty memory. I don't really know what I was thinking of, but I can't shake the feeling that I've heard Doc do that song. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. Anyway, for Maelgwyn, there is a long version of the song and some interesting comment in Alan Lomax's Folk Songs of North America that is definitely an Americanized version. He says the song virtually disappeared from the British Isles after about 1850, but has shown up in various forms in almost every area of the U.S.
