Interested to see that gloaming means dusk. I had always thought it was the red light that is peculiar to Scotland and I imagine other places of similar latitude, that comes between daylight and what I would call dusk (which is darker) This in memory at least takes place in spring, and the light doesn't so much diminish as change colour, making thing glow, which I had assumed was the source of the term.
