Bull Am Where's all the young folk? (55* d) RE: Where's all the young folk? 16 Jul 02

Well, as a 23 year old folk musician and enthusiast, the trap that I always try to avoid is being too subservient to the tastes of my generation. I try to keep my ears open to new sounds and approaches, but at the same time, 85 percent of the music I love is at least 20 yrs old. I think it has something to do with the modern mass corporation culture, the fact that there seems to be so much more depth and time tested truth to, say, the music of Percy French or the Clancys as compared to someone like Lil' Bow Wow or Ol' Dirty Bastard. Also, a lot of the folk music that we're discussing here has been played for generations by younger AND older musicians...It's truly a genre rooted in oral transmission, which involves a cooperative approach. At the same time, sometimes I feel like a 60 yr old trapped in this body...
