The best city in the world is Gilman City, Mo., population 250 on a good night.
There's a decent diner in town, if you get there before 7 p.m., and a store that still sells Coke in glass bottles. If you eat at he diner, I recommend the pork ternderloin basket. The fries are to die for, and they still have ketchup in a bottle, not those silly little foil packs.
As for the action-packed, thrill-a-minute nightlife, well, absolutely NOTHING happens. There is a little tavern there, though. The beer tastes like cold beer on a hot summer night, and they still have Willie Nelson and Charley Rich on the jukebox.
About this time of year, the excitement level moves up a notch, because the stars get really intense in late summer, and after an August thunderstorm, you really CAN hear the corn grow.
Good fiddle players out that way, too.
