My mother came from County Cork, north of Cork City. She was a native Irish speaker and in the 1950's I often heard her sing the Castle of Dromore in the gaelic. She was not widely travelled, so it is likely that the song was known around Cork at the time she lived there (from 1908 to about 1926). This might support the proposal that the song comes from nearby ... My geography is not great. Which of the suggested sites is near Cork?
