You can also get the sheet music to many of these tunes by joining the San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers Club. Alasdair founded it and is the musical director. If you're in the SF Bay Area the monthly meetings are a chance to make good music with some wonderful folks. But even if you're not local, one of the perqs of being in the club is the monthly newsletter, which includes the "tunes of the month." Members can buy a collection of the tunes of the month all the way back into the 80's. Many of the tunes you'll hear on Alasdair's recordings are included in this collection. Years ago Chanteyranger dragged me to my first meeting of SFSF, which was when I first met Alasdair. I was hooked immediately. This is a wonderful non-profit organization, filled with many talented musicians and some of the most warm and welcoming folks you'll ever meet. Your membership supports their mission of keeping this music alive in the tradition of learning tunes together by ear, and bringing them to the public in community concerts and international tours. Generations of kids have grown up in the company of these dear folks, and have gone on to wonderful musical careers in their own right. Alasdair will be performing in concert with the Scottish Fiddle Club in their annual spring concert series at the following locations... Friday May 2 (2003), 8 pm Ohlone College, Fremont, CA Saturday, May 3rd (2003), 7:30 pm Veteran's Hall Grass Valley, CA Sunday, May 4th (2003), 3 pm Palace of Fine Arts San Francisco, CA ....and just one more little piece of the commercial... Alasdair will perform at the Hyde St. Festival in San Francisco this Sat. May 3rd (along with El Swanno of Oak Ash & Thorn and our own dear Chanteyranger.) If you can make it down there, come find me! The web address for the Fiddle Club is www.sfscottishfiddlers.org cheers, pj
