Subject: RE: Lyr Req:I'm Troubled From: Zorro Date: 07 Sep 99 - 09:37 AM Well, this could be or not.... Somewhere I have an old Burl Ives song that goes: "I'm troubled, yes I'm troubled, I'm troubled in my mind if that trouble don't kill me I'll live a long time. My cheeks once were red, like the red, red rose, but now they are white as the lily that grows..." If you think this is it, I'll do my best to dig it out or up and send all the lyrics... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req:I'm Troubled From: Arnie Naiman Date: 07 Sep 99 - 10:17 AM It was recorded on the folkways Watson Family record which you should definitely get a hold of - the harmony singing is inspiring. I'll supply you with the words later when I have some more time - or you can get it from Rick Fielding who also sings this one. |

Subject: Lyr Add: I'M TROUBLED (Lomax) From: GutBucketeer Date: 07 Sep 99 - 11:57 PM You may have had trouble finding it because It's more of an Old Time tune than a standard bluegrass song. Its on a Gerry Garcia, et.al "Old and in the Way" tape I have. I also found it in the Folk Songs of North America by Alan Lomax (song #102) See below. I'm troubled, I'm troubled I'm troubled in my mind, If trouble don't kill me, I'll live a long time, My cheeks was as red, As the red, red rose, But now they're as pale as The lily that blows. I'll build me a cabin On the mountain so high, Where the wild birds can't see me Or hear my sad cry. I'm sad and I'm lonely, My heart it will break, My true love loves another, Lord, I wisht I was dead. Line Breaks |

Subject: Lyr Add: I'M TROUBLED (Watson Family) From: Tiger Date: 08 Sep 99 - 02:11 PM This is from The Watson Family album mentioned above. The liner notes read like typical Lomax, so I didn't include them. Doc does mention that he learned this song from the recording of the Blue Sky Boys (Bill and Earl Bolick). ....Tiger I'm Troubled - The Watson Family
A meeting is a pleasure,
A thief can but rob you,
I'm troubled, I'm troubled, I'm troubled in mind, If trouble don't kill me, Lord, I'll live a long time.
The grave will decay you,
They'll hug you, they'll kiss you,
I'm goin' to Georgia,
Gonna build me a cabin

Subject: RE: Lyr Req:I'm Troubled From: GutBucketeer Date: 09 Sep 99 - 02:55 PM This is also much closer to the version that Jerry Garcia sings on the Old and in the Way Album, than the Lomax lyrics that I posted earlier. (Thanks Joe for fixing up my line breaks). JAB |
