I guess the Carter Family one is the oldest--recorded in 1928, I think. There is a video called "Guitar Styles of the Carter Family" taught by Mike Seeger. On it he teaches the Cannonball blues. The tape comes with a booklet with the music and lyrics for it too.

Fred Sokolow's book on the Carter Family guitar music might have it too. I don't have the book handy so I can't check that but This thread should give the details of the book.

Murray

Same tune, different song.

"White House Blues," a topical song about the assasination of of President William McKinley in 1901, uses the same melody as "Cannonball Blues," whose lyrics you are quoting from.

There are lots of versions of "Cannonball Blues" available. The Carter Family, Tom Rush, Utah Phillips are a few that come to mind.

Looking for a version other than Renbourn's or the older Charlie Poole version. The one I'm looking for has the following in the lyric:

wash my jumpers, starch my overalls ,catch that train they call the Cannonball. I have a great guitar teacher who would appreciate it!!
