I picked one up a while ago - am looking for another. (I'm located in Australia, but got this from the USA)

I am talking about the "Chinese Generic Cheap 'Toy' Piano Accordion" - originally Hero Brand - but many other brand names were used too.

4 or 8 bass, and very limited keyboard range. NOT 'Hohner' - I want the approx $50 - $100 Chinese made little boxes - there were single or double reed models.

NOT the 'baby button boxes' that now seem to be everywhere.

I tracked down, found and contacted a Chinese manufacturer a couple of years ago, and told them I wanted to import for resale whatever minimum quantity they packed in, could they tell me prices and freight. I only got a very polite inflexible form response that said that they only sold as wholesalers to businesses and basically to get lost.

Sigh!

No help I'm afraid but I have had a couple of 'Hero' Chinese harmonicas. Didn't know they made other stuff! You could try the 'Parrot' brand as well. My mate Martin had a cheap Chinese accordion by them Trouble was half the bass buttons fell into the body one day!

Haven't been able to find any of the 'toy' type on line...

Actually, since there's very little inside, they aren't all that hard to fix - unless the reeds go...

so anyone who has one, I'm interested....

I have a little white Hero accordion. The keys sit on top instead of the side. It is aproximately 6 in. by 8 in. by 3 in.
I don't play but it seems to have a good tone and in pretty fair condition. If you are still looking and this sounds like what you're looking for then answer this message and I will get back to you. ML

There are button boxes that size - a lot of them around - not as good as the Piano boxes, which are often a little larger. A picture would be useful - some info as to how many keys and reeds would be appreciated too, as well as telling me where you are - importing such things are often a nightmare, and they often get damaged, as well as all the hassle with customs, even for second hand instruments.

If you contact one of the other local more experienced Mudcatters who know/play the instruments, they can help you.

I have a Hero Toy Accordion which has 3 buttons on one side and 7 is it reeds ?, on the other. Its years old and was made in Shanghai. I was left it by my Grandmother years ago but it seems to be in good condition. If you could post a pic may that would be better.

Not surprisingly, if you have a local Chinatown, you might find both the piano and button varieties of Hero there. Going rate should be round-about $20.00 US. I've also seen them in quite a few toy stores.
