Subject: Salterelle button boxes From: Bluebeard Date: 23 Jun 02 - 10:28 PM I have been playing East German and Hohner accordions for the last 10 years. Ready to buy another in A/D and browsing through the web, I like what I see about the Salterelle line. Any Mudcatters have any opinions ? And you wankers can spare me the usual accordion jokes. |
Subject: RE: Salterelle button accordions From: fogie Date: 24 Jun 02 - 05:22 AM I've got a connemara 3 , and found it very good, unlike the castignari you can play it with 1,2,or3 reeds in or out, so theres plenty of different sounds. The transition from Hohner button to a Mushroom type button is a bit unnerving, and I kept to the button but was able to play french as well as UK music. You wont have any trouble with Saltarelles, except the blooming Costalotti set lookin down their noses at it - never bothered me. I wish you luck, get a 3 reed one. |
Subject: RE: Salterelle button accordions From: Mitch the Bass Date: 24 Jun 02 - 06:34 AM I've had a Salterelle Pastourelle III for about 3 years. I believe Salterelle went through a period of quality problems. The Music Room in Cleckheaton were very supportive in getting a couple of reeds reset so that they operated at the same pressure as the others. I've had no problems since but it's worth giving the instrument a good work out at all volume levels and with all stop combinations - but I guess this is good advice for all makes. The newer range, the Ocean etc? look good with stops operated from levers behind the finger board rather than from on top of the instrument. Mitch Stradivarious |
Subject: RE: Salterelle button accordions From: treewind Date: 24 Jun 02 - 07:48 AM The only Saltarelle I know well seems to me to have a rather dull stodgy sound, whether it's being played by me or by its owner. But I've heard other people play Saltarelles and they sound absolutely fine, and a lot of good players use them. By the way, you can get Castagnaris with couplers! (at a price, of course...) While looking for good boxes not quite as expensive as Costalotti, consider Dino Baffetti too. They are the only ones I liked nearly as much as the Oakwood that I play now. Depends on what you need it for but the Dino was punchy and powerful, not quite as bright as the Oakwood. While I have the attention of any melodeon players out there - I'm looking for an instrument with just two voices an octave apart. Preferably a 2.5 row with 12 basses. I could use a 3 voice and cut out one of the trebles, but that makes an expensive and heavy box. It's a sound popular in the Balkans, and that's the kind of music I want to play on it. Since Nils Nielsen tuned my Oakwood to a fairly fruity tremolo I'm not sure if it sounds right for those Macedonian and Bulgarian tunes any more. The problem is getting a box like that in the UK - I get the impression they are made for the East Eupropean market but don't get imported here because there's not so much demand. I have spies making enquiries at St Chartier next month but any info would be appreciated. Anahata |

Subject: RE: Salterelle button accordions From: Tattie Bogle Date: 21 Nov 21 - 02:43 PM First reaction is why? And as an indentified Guest, is this clickbait or spam? Well yes, I do play a Saltarelle Irish Bouebe B/C and I love it. Had it about 15 years after ditching first B/C which was pretty rubbishy by comparison. The guy I sold it to also played D/G but wanted to try B/C. When I next met him, he said he couldn’t get on with playing both systems (not surprised at that, unless you’re Tim Edey!) and he had swapped it for a banjo. (So now you can do the banjo jokes!) Have had to have 2 reeds repaired on my Saltarelle at different times, one bass, one treble, but otherwise it carries on fine! Wonder how Bluebeard is getting on? |
