Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Bat Goddess Date: 01 Apr 08 - 11:55 AM Hee hee, my......foot. ;-) Remember that in the song (Me Husband Has No Courage In Him) the singer is the OBSERVER and overhearer of the young woman with the problem (which she solves by the end of the song). Then again, maybe he's just full of JOHN Courage... Linn (chortle) |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Bat Goddess Date: 01 Apr 08 - 08:58 AM Just remembered that I also sang "Me Husband Has No Courage In Him" -- but that may have been after you left, Charlie. Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Charley Noble Date: 31 Mar 08 - 04:29 PM Linn- It was the "Doffing Mistress" of course. And very well done! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Bat Goddess Date: 31 Mar 08 - 10:08 AM Hey, Charlie -- I sang neither "Dicy Reilly" nor "Darcy Farrell" and neither did Tom...what song are you thinking of? I DID sing "Doffing Mistress", "Factory Girl", "The Bedmaking" and, of course, your request of Sally Rogers' "Lovely Agnes" which I, of course, sing because of my Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin and Lake Michigan antecedents. Lovely evening. Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Jeri Date: 31 Mar 08 - 09:04 AM Tami was helping me with 'When I Go' (Dave Carter). Thanks for saying the nice things! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: kendall Date: 31 Mar 08 - 08:33 AM Ranger 1 doesn't often sing, she just hangs around looking young, the little twit. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: maeve Date: 31 Mar 08 - 07:48 AM That's the one! Yes, she does. I did not, however, get to hear Ranger 1 sing this time. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: ranger1 Date: 31 Mar 08 - 07:41 AM Maeve, I think the song you're referring to was "When I Go" by Dave Carter. Jeri does a beautiful job with it. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: maeve Date: 30 Mar 08 - 05:14 PM Mine's easy to remember. I sang MeganL's "From the Bridge" to the tune "Invershin". Sinsull sang a lovely Gypsy Davy variation. And while some of you had heard Jeri's song, it was new to me and quite lovely too. What was it, Jeri? |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: SINSULL Date: 30 Mar 08 - 04:36 PM Seamus refused to leave when Jacqui came to get him. He is snoozing in the arm chair in my sunroom. A very happy puppy. I am fighting the urge to take a nap. I want to slep tonight. Thank you to everyone who took part in last night's festivities. It was wonderful. Mary |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Charley Noble Date: 30 Mar 08 - 04:34 PM Linn and Tom were in great form as well. They did lovely renditions of "Darcy Riley" and "Martin Said to His Man." Jacqui did Utah Philip's coal mining song about morphine and "Phoebe Snow." Got to run! Someone else needs to confess what songs they led. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Jeri Date: 30 Mar 08 - 03:53 PM No Laphroaig at all! There was Tom's excellent curry and Charlie's blueberry chutney, roasted veggies, veggie lasagna, and Maeve's beautiful apple pie. It was a wonderful night. A little short on music, but the conversation was great and it was nice to see Maeve, with or without pie. I'm recovering. Didn't sleep much in Mary's comfy guest room air bed - had one of those headache-free migraines and froze, with various body parts cramping much of the night. Maybe the cheese set it off... or the scotch... or the wine... or staying up too late. It might have been the invasion of the dog-hair bunnies, or laughing at the dog hair bunnies, or laughing at Alice the cat. Who knows. I just know I had a great time, aside from the sleeping part. |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: maeve Date: 30 Mar 08 - 11:46 AM Thank you for another lovely evening. I was permitted to enter once the assembly saw I carried the required password-in-a-pan, and greeted graciously. Sinsull forgave me for throwing a plate on the floor. The food was delicious and varied. The music was also delicious and varied, and I enjoyed both music and company sufficiently for my church friends to remark on how happy I was as I sang in our service this morning. Kendall- I warned you about the proper use of Glenfiddich. It goes down the drain. No wonder you didn't feel good. Pay attention and follow directions next time. Have Abelour instead. I missed saying goodnight to some of the lovely folks as I left- I couldn't see anyone in the dark! Thank you all, especially our generous hostess, for such a welcome springtime gathering. maeve |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Megan L Date: 30 Mar 08 - 10:32 AM You never told me there was going to be PECAN PIE damb I could have done with a couple of days break too. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: SINSULL Date: 30 Mar 08 - 10:20 AM It took four of us but Charlie and Jeri managed most of the lyrics to Anderson's Coast. Can't imagine that South Portland saved muchmoney on power - my house was the only dark one on the street. Luckily there was a sufficient amount of cheese to go with the whine,,, This night really came together. Lots of good music, stories, food and drink and friends. I think we were all up for an evening. Now who belongs to the pecan pie? It was untouched - blame Holly and her apple pie for that. |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: jacqui.c Date: 30 Mar 08 - 08:37 AM Thanks to Deb and Tom for taking me home rather later than Kendall. MANY thanks to Tom for the curry - it was wonderful. Another great night, even though we were literally in the dark for an hour between eight and nine, with only candle light. That meant making sure we knew the words to any songs we brought out! Luckily I had my light up crochet hook so could continue work whilst the lights were off. |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Charley Noble Date: 29 Mar 08 - 11:33 PM Maeve did come after all with the apple pie, which went wonderfully well with Jeri's rat cheese; she only lives about 20 minutes north of me so I invited her to a benefit concert we're doing in Richmond (Maine) April 20 with Roll & Go, and Kat Logan & Jim Loney. There was also a new couple who seemed very interested in the singing, who have just moved into town from Rhode Island. What were their names? Their lasagna was fine. Tom's curry was also a delight, and people seemed to enjoy the homemade blueberry chutney that I brought to go with it. There was also a great salad, roasted veggies, fruit, and lots of beer and wine, and a bottle of expensive looking scotch. I got to sing some of my old Great Lakes songs: "Keewenaw County" and "Fresh-Water Whaling (aka "Superior Sperm") and I got Linn to sing "Lovely Agnes." Other songs I led included "Mid-Watches," "Poor Little Ellen," and "The Body in the Bag." Everyone seemed to be in good spirits, maybe just a little tired from extended winter! Thanks, Sinsull, for hosting another fine song party. Of course, most everyone is still there singing but they don't have an hour to drive. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: maeve Date: 29 Mar 08 - 03:04 PM Gnu's correct. We got some wonderful apple and pear scions today (which bodes well for the future pies but are not any use for driving), along with other good plant stuff! Will you kind folks mind terribly if I join you tonight after all? I'm sitting here chopping juicy apples. I'll try get there in time for supper! I won't need a bed, for I'm singing at church early Sunday morning and will need to get home tonight. Love, maeve, feeling very welcome |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Jeri Date: 29 Mar 08 - 03:02 PM I have the cheese, and it's good. The had 4 year old Cheddar, but I actually like the rat trap stuff better. It's creamier. Man, I am HUNGRY! I was reading the hot sauce labels and giggling: Hemorrhoid Helper, John McCain (that's it - boring!) Hillary, 'Life's a Bitch, so Why...", Queers Sauce for the Straight Guy, Dumb and Dumber (guess who's on the label) Red Sox, Sir Fartalot, and more. Couldn't memorize them all. I could be a collector. They had chutney too. |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Jeri Date: 29 Mar 08 - 11:42 AM Real aged 'rat trap' cheddar, whacked off a wheel right in front of me. Think about it. Poor cheese. Poor sad, lonely cheese. The cheese should NOT stand alone. And Maeve, I haven't seen you for ages! If you already have one of those funny looking cars, why do you need to swap for a different one? Please don't make your friends sad! (Mary, this ought to work way better than threats, although they're worth a shot.) |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: SINSULL Date: 29 Mar 08 - 11:29 AM heh heh No - I won't forgive you! Either you show, apple pie and all, or you go! Anybody buying this? We'll miss you Maeve. Next time sniff...snivel...and so on. Mary |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: maeve Date: 28 Mar 08 - 04:28 PM Will the mood turn ugly if the pie and I don't manage to get down there tomorrow night? We have the all day scion swap tomorrow in Unity. I may have turned into a grafting scion before I can make that long drive from Unity to home to South Portland. Plan on having a second food option to accompany all that good cheese just in case I can't get there, please. I'll do my best to join you. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Bat Goddess Date: 28 Mar 08 - 12:23 PM I think I made the complementary taste discovery by accident at a party either at our place or another of our circle in the early 1980s -- had blue cheese and an apple pie on the plate at the same time and they evidently ended up on the same forkfull. And history was made. Actually, it shouldn't be too surprising -- blue cheese is served with pears all the time, why not apples? Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Jeri Date: 28 Mar 08 - 08:48 AM Should be cleaned out by tomorrow, and I'll stay out of ditches today. I gotta feel for Garnet - he got snowed out LAST time! (Come to think of it, this is probably his fault.) |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: Charley Noble Date: 28 Mar 08 - 08:30 AM To be clear, we're not expecting any snow on Saturday. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's 3/29 From: SINSULL Date: 28 Mar 08 - 08:23 AM We are expecting 2-4" or 4-6" or 6-8" of snow depending on which weatherman you watch. Hope this doesn't keep people away. It will clear late this afternoon so... Meantime, I am making a huge salad with assorted dressings on the side. There will be crusty bread to accompany the lasagna, salad and blue cheese. Why do I have the scary feeling that the salsa invasion is about to be outdone by a barrage of smelly cheeses? |
