Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: stallion Date: 27 Apr 08 - 05:00 AM It is very reasonable and there is a lot of quality there, I am astonished that someone had the balls to gatecrash Pickering on to the folk festival map, it is hardly "from little acorns etc". My most enjoyable session this year was at KFFC Winter Warmer W/E in the singaround, stuff of legends and maybe a reprise in November, well done Banji. |

Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 27 Apr 08 - 04:41 AM But if you didn't like folk music there's a pretty good chance that you wouldn't be going anyway The Villan. Regarding the missus, get a new one :-) |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: Rasener Date: 27 Apr 08 - 04:27 AM >>Are you suggesting that 40 quid for 38 other acts (of sheer quality) is a rip-off?<< I guess that depends on whether you like folk music or not! I like folk music and £40 in this day and age is cheap. However my missus would argue that she could spend the £40 in a much better way :-) |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 27 Apr 08 - 03:37 AM Incidentally Paul, I haven't heard Maeve MacKinnon. Maybe I should get along to Ryedale and check it out. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 26 Apr 08 - 08:12 AM GREYCAP - Just picked up on yout posting. When you say "too expensive", are you referring to the Pickering Festival? If you are, I find that incredible. If you were to go along to see either of Friday's or Saturday's headliners at a theatre you'd be paying around 20 - 25 quid alone. Are you suggesting that 40 quid for 38 other acts (of sheer quality) is a rip-off? That's without mentioning everthing else that's going on. You can (physically) watch 20 concerts over the course of the weekend if you wish. That works out at 3.25 per gig. Now, I suggest that's pretty good value! If you weren't referring to Pickering then I take it all back! :-) |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 26 Apr 08 - 05:45 AM Sorry mate, I was previously looking at someone else's website and got them muddled up. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,Banji Date: 26 Apr 08 - 04:54 AM By the way, some of us have to fit in full time jobs to support our better half's folky endeavours! Paul |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,Banjiman Date: 26 Apr 08 - 04:52 AM Morning GTI, The summer is pretty busy....but unless you know something I don't, Wendy is not playing anywhere on the weekend 8th-10th Aug. Maybe at (the mighty!)Kirkby Fleetham Feast for fun is all. Paul |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 26 Apr 08 - 04:32 AM Thanks Paul. Yeah, will definately try to get along. I see that Mrs Banjiman has a pretty busy summer with gigs. Good stuff! Beats working for a living :-) You were saying that you'd do Pickering or Saltburn if they'd offer her a gig. She's already playing that weekend though isn't she? |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,Banjiman Date: 26 Apr 08 - 04:19 AM GTI, Yes, Ryedale Folk Weekend (23rd-26th May) is at the Folk Museum which is an absoulutely beautiful setting and very safe for Children as it is totally enclosed. It is £25 for the weekend and you get: Maeve Mackinnon (Have you heard her, she sings beautifully!) Flossie Dave Goulder Richard Grainger and Chris Parkinson Adrian O Wendy Arrowsmith Brother Crow Phil Drane (NZ) Les Cameron and Barbara Helen Jane Williamson Four Quarters Zeds Ded + others still being confirmed. In addition many workshops (including dry stone walling, which you have to admit is different!), singarounds and sessions. I know most of the acts (one very well indedd!) and while they might not be the biggest names nationally that is simply because we in North Yorks are selfishly keeping them secret! See Ryedale Thread for more details. Paul |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 26 Apr 08 - 01:24 AM What's Ryedale Festival like? Is it the one at the Folk Museum? |

Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: theleveller Date: 25 Apr 08 - 12:09 PM "Where's the money coming from to pay for this lot?" From me, for one. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 25 Apr 08 - 12:04 PM The company seem to be a successful one stallion as their events are held annually so, I'm guessing, that they've done their homework. The good thing is that they're folkies! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: stallion Date: 25 Apr 08 - 12:01 PM Where's the money comming from to pay for this lot? Someone has been very bold indeed I hope it is a success. A lot of crowd pullers there so it should be. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 25 Apr 08 - 10:01 AM I wonder if it was deliberate to seperate the men from the women on Friday night at Pickering. Waterboys (M), Luka Bloom (M), Johnny Dickinson (M), Steve Phillips etc (M) against Cara Dillon (F), Tiny Tin Lady (F), Chris @ Maire (50/50), Paula Ryan (F). By the way, no booking fee here either! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 25 Apr 08 - 09:48 AM Who are? The Pogues or the tribute band? |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,Mr Red Date: 25 Apr 08 - 09:46 AM Pogue's Tribute Band? I guess they are firmly "establishment" now. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Festival - LINE UP (UK) From: GUEST,The Input Date: 25 Apr 08 - 08:45 AM Are you stirring trouble Katlaughing? I think we can leave those discussions to those threads. Please let me wallow in the thread that is Pickering 2008. |
Subject: RE: PICKERING FESTIVAL - LINE UP From: GUEST,The Input Date: 25 Apr 08 - 08:42 AM For me it'll be main stage all Friday night. Saturday will be main stage all afternoon followed by Tim Edey Nand, Katie Doherty, Andrew Dinan Band (if he's who I think he is) and Eddi Reader. Sunday is the hardest day. Afternoon will be Chris & Mark then Ian Bruce then Alie & Steve then Jo's gig. Sunday evening will be second stage all evening I think. Decisions, decisions. I always plan these things way ahead and they NEVER work out that way. |
