Alright, I'll pick just one more out, even though she would be well over age. Cecilia Costello is now dead. I point that out because once before in her lifetime she was reported dead in the local paper. A neighbour came round, knocked on the door, and when Cecilia opened it, asked the classic question: Mrs Costello, you're not really dead, are you?

I started reading this thread because I'm still reeling from 2009 when we lost a LOT of folk singers. Already mentioned were Sandy Paton, Mike Seeger & Mary Travers who all died last year.
I did not see the names of Bess Lomax Hawes, Richie Schulberg, Mary LaMarca, Susan Contento (in NYC)who died last year.
I'm also going to drift from the thread's focus to share my pleasure that three singers who seemed desperately ill in December 2009 are still with us, Jean Ritchie, Jerry Epstein, & Ray Fisher.

I was going to include Woody and even Hank Williams (yes, he's thought of as "country," but an awful lot of folk singers do his songs all the time). Woody would've been almost 99 if he were alive, though, but Hank would be just 87, so maybe I should have included him.

I was always under the impression that Old Man Mose was a name from a song title. (I remember that Louis Armstrong, Betty Hutton, and Manhattan Transfer - among others - recorded it.)

And somehow, both Big Lists managed to omit Woody Guthrie! (Though he was mentioned in an earlier post in this thread.)

Not sure Frank Purslow has been mentioned ~~ not in Miskin Man's list ~ & I seem to remember hearing he had died. If not, apologies. I am reminded of him by having just mentioned a song he used to sing in the Fuck My Old Boots thread.
