Yum, oliebolle! How about starting a new tradition at Loughstock this year, Dr Fibs? :0)

(Oliebolle are Dutch deep fried doughnuts- does the word literally mean oily balls??? Note to self- consult the Lard King.)

Eric, Germany is NOT part of the UK - and the question was whether I could take Limpit home with me ...

Liz, little limpet doesn't need a passport, only photo ID as you are not leaving the UK if you were to take her, unless you are landing in the south.

Fibs-sounds like you should be eating oily pumkin! (I'll ask his lardship) Wot about your trip in January?

I'm hoping to finalise my arrangements very soon, but life is really hectic at the moment.

So Leadfingers.. just you and the kit... no room for any thing else in THAT car then!

When the new legislation came in, children that were already on parental passports can travel with that parent, but not with the passport alone or a different parent. When it gets renewed, she'll have to have her own.

But what the hell, she isn't coming!!!

Incidentally, I shall be recovering from surgery 3 weeks previously (yes, I checked, I'll be alright to fly, it's not a long distance and it's not major surgery) so please be gentle with me!

Oliebollen?

Doesn't sound very fattening - unless you add a lot of baby oil ...

Or do you want to tell us you are pregnant as you seem suddenly to be interested in baby clothing?

Indeed, John-who-is-Giok, liquid passes through the eye of a needle rather well. While the bottom was falling out of the world this Christmas, the world was falling out of my bottom. I shall spare you all the extremely gory details, except to say that when samples are called for, you suddenly realise that no one has ever taught you the best way to, er, catch one.

Twas beam-thingy stuff I was doing in the desert Letty (if indeed beam-thingy is laser scanning). I took my "travel fiddle" with me to Libya, but alas, played it only twice as the rest of the time I was either in the toilet or under a mosquito net sleeping.

Ah, the joys of fieldwork. My colleague here was waiting all Summer to scan an inscription in a stone with some beam-thingy, which could only be done without rain. She finally got it done in October!

Mind you, my friend Laura came back from a dig on the Shetland islands with a tan a enormous biceps.

Looking forward to Portaferry (though not to the trip...)!

Love, Letty

hello, it is I, Fibulamatic, fresh returned from the dust of the Sahara, where this Christmas I have mostly been sitting on a toilet and vomiting into a basin. Now I am back early from the cutting edge of archaeological fieldwork and am recovering and trying to put back on the weight I lost after 9 days without food. Anyway, the lovely people of the Comhaltas in Portaferry (especially my main point of contact, my mate Liam, a.k.a. the cittern player) are getting things sussed for the Saturday night, and with a bit of luck we'll all be headed to the new and refurbished Dumigans for a bit of a hoolie. Hurrah!

Hi Skarpi

I just wrote you the longest PM I've ever written! But I pressed the wrong button and lost the whole lot. I hope I can remember everything....

If you like, I can hire a car and transport you everywhere you need to go in Northern Ireland, including meeting you at the airport on Thursday night and getting you back there on Monday morning. Also trips to wherever your friend lives. (I know my way round Belfast pretty well.) The total cost to you guys would be £25 each, which would go towards cost of car hire. This is less than you would pay in bus fares during your stay, and would save you a lot of hassle.

Also I am fairly sure I can borrow a friend's house, just a few miles from the airport, where we could all stay on Thursday night if you like. I could then take you to meet your friend in Belfast on Friday morning, and pick you up again when you want to set off for Portaferry. If you did not mind waiting until 1500 before leaving for Portaferry, that would be perfect, as my daughter would be out of school and we might be able to squeeze her into the car on the same trip.

On Sunday night, you could stay at the self-catering house I have booked. Five of us are staying there on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday night it is only MudGuard and me, so far. The cost to you would be £9 each. OR, it might be better to stay at my friend's house again, as that is much nearer to the airport. We could decide about Sunday night later, when I know for sure whether we can borrow the house. The cost for using the house, if available, would be a bottle of some suitable Icelandic concoction for the house owner (is there something called Brinnivin?)

By the way, the best music day at Portaferry will be Saturday. Most people are leaving on Sunday, and you might like to go to a session in Belfast that day (it starts about 1600). That might suit your Belfast friend, and maybe Skipjack8 (Greg) and MudGuard would like that, as they are staying in Northern Ireland till Monday (Greg will also have a hire car).

Let me know what you think, and also let me know if you have any questions.

Best wishes ~ Peter Kirker [also known as "Peter K (Fionn)"]

If you can get from International Airport to Belfast we can definitely pick you up in Belfast. That's a definite! If you're flying into City Airport, we can definitely pick you up there.

Eric- it's definitely International Aiport and not City Airport? If there's any way you can get from International Airport to the bus station in Belfast then I will do my damndest to get you down the peninsula. If it's City Airport I can probably get you straight from there, no problem at all.
