Hello Martabees - glad you are enjoying our little corner of this alternative universe. Its fun and we like it! It can get a little confusing in 'ere. PTH play gigs which are advertised and often discussed in these threads and the rest of the time we are talking about sessions or just plain old fashioned utter rubbish. Mostly it is the later.

Oh and incedentaly I've heard a roooomor that our vertuoso bum flute player has started taking steroids so that he can hit those high notes better. Wonder what he was mostly playing last night? KJ?

Gotta say, ladies and gents, that I have been totally confused and delightfully so as I - a PTH newby from the US - tried to figure out what this was all about.

Thanks for the lovely laughs. And I REALLY enjoyed the dialects I could hear in your postings.

And I REALLY wish I could have attended the playing. Did I get that right.... this was about a performance of some kind?

You are all such a riot! Can I tune in for the August 'event' and be just as enthralled??
Thanks loads,
Martha in Tallahassee - that's Florida -that's the US, where...lucky Floridians get to suffer with the Bush Boys...a governor AND a presidents. cough cough cough....

Why thank you honey (but I'm not worried). Dicky is an excellent piper we play different types of music so comparisons are futile (they are anyway)and I know that I am a competent piper, excellence will take a while longer (but I'm going to work at it and keep working at it untill old age and senility stops me - yes that would be about two months away then you sarky buggers!).

Yes sweetfire, he was at the festival but he wasnt the magic piper that enthraled us in the early hours of that sunday morn.Norreen.Dicky can usually be found in the company of John the harp and Chrissie, busking around the Beverley.

I see that unspeakable bounder zoomercrap1.5% has made an appearance again -dont encourage him Norreen!!!!!

Sweetfire, the other guy is called Dickie and the pipes he was playing are an Irish instrument called uillean pipes - pronounced uillean - sometimes known as union pipes after the "union" of sound they make.

Uillean or Irish pipes - they consist of a chanter (wot he plays the tunes on) three drones (self explainatory) and three regulators (the things with all the keys on them)which he can play cords on or single notes that in concert with the drones make cords and can be used to provide a harmonic accompaniement. (Oops spelling). Here endeth the lesson sf.
