Charlie, If you see Joe, tell him we've honored him with a condom...the"Lighten Up" thread...but will await his return so he can write the instruction booklet himself.

I had a strange experience last Saturday night. I posted something to the Mudcat, and managed to make a silly mistake in the html coding. "What to do?" I said to myself. "Gee, I wish Joe Offer was around to fix it." Then I crossed the street to my neighbor's house (actually it's SongBob's house in Silver Spring, Maryland, and it's around the corner), where there was a sing-around in progress. And there, sitting on the far side of the room, was a man named Joe Offer. But since this man with the familiar name had no access to a computer, and wouldn't for weeks, this person with the same name as the computer-fixer was useless to solving my predicament. It was the wrong way for him to be around... (at least, for fixing the coding purposes)...

I can report that the man named Joe Offer has been having a wonderful time integrating himself as an honored guest into the greater-Washington, DC folk community. But it would still be nice if there were someone online to fix our mistakes. Maybe next time I see him, I can kidnap him and set him in front of my computer until he sets everything aright with the Mudcat. On the other hand, he's having a wonderful time in our neighborhood actually MAKING music instead of talking about it.

Could this marvelous piece of software, aka Joe Offer, have been taken offline for a month for an upgrade? **grin** Sure miss him round here; don't have anyone else to pester for HTML help. Ha! I hope his trip to DC has gone well. Cheers, Teresa

DC, I b'lieve, and y'all should be getting some opportunity to meet him, as I don't think he can keep away from folk circles. If he was hoping to surprise you, I probably just blew it, but watch for JOE OFFER appearing soon at a neighborhood sing near you.
We'll see if that works, if not, sorry.
Blessings,
Barbara

On the Guild guitar thread I recently read:

Subject: RE: Info/Opinios Re: Guild Guitars From: Sandy Paton Date: 05-Mar-99 - 12:01 AM

Sorry, folks. I've been neglecting that little ol' slash mark before the final "a" -- and Joe's off to Washington for a month and won't be around to correct my foolish errors. At least I've discovered what I've been doing wrong. My next try will be better, I promise!

Sandy

Although it is not clearly a reference to Joe Offer, Joe had been bestowed by the great Max the power to "edit" threads after they were posted. Could be the same program.

I am curious to know if he went to Washington state or Washington, D.C.. If he were in DC for a month and I did not get to meet him I would be sorely disappointed.

Recently on a local TV station there was a blurry video tape shown of the strange beast called Joe Offer. It seems the beast shambled out of the woods and frightened two ornithologists who were taping bird calls in the local vicinity.

The shy creature, known as Joe Offer, was apparantly singing the Riggs of Barely Under it's breath until it saw the two researchers then hurredly ran back into the forest. They gave chase, but no trace was found of the creature, apart from the distant echoes of A-Rovin we must go that came from deeper in the bosque.

Has anyone knowledge of a certain cyber-creature, that sometimes goes by the name of Joe Offer. This being used to frequent this establishment but has recently been notable by his absence. He was known to dispense goodwill, help and gentle guidance in a common sense way which I for one am missing very much.

Judging by the only photograph, that I have seen of him, he may be found lurking furtively around the vicinity of lighthouses. Great care should be taken when approaching this individual as when cornered, he may go straight into Englebert Humperdinck impressions or sing the entire contents off 'Rise up singing'.

Be warned, all fields should be checked, as recent communication seems to indicate that he may be found in one, laden with vast amounts of antique sound recording equipment, lying down to ambush passing folk singers.

Any further information about this individual should be posted here, to enable a more complete picture to be made up, which may result in his welcome return to the fold. I suggest this flow of information be kept up until he checks in.
