RE Rockhen.
She always claims they are Lincolnshire tones but now the secret is out
She is really a foriegner from Dulcet.
Maybe she knows how to make cider so it might not be all bad news.

And what a great and relaxed Festival it is too...can't wait!
Rockhen...forgiven but I do think you should come to GFC occasionally with your musical talents and dulcet tones...how about it?
Don't forget Folkies...Gainsborough Folk Club this coming Friday...come sing, perform or just watch. Also Don't forget Tanglefoot at Castle Hills on Wednesday.
Best wishes, Mike.

No problem! Re the calories, I should stick to chocolate Rockhen - it works for me.

BTW Gainsborough Folk Festival details are here.

There are free singarounds all afternoon and evening on the Saturday but a modest outlay will gain you access to a songwriting workshop with George Papavgeris and a guitar workshop with Duncam Macfarlane as well as several amazing concerts. We are particularly proud of our Saturday evening concert which runs (in the comfort of a delightful theatre auditorium) from 7.30pm to 11pm with minimal intervals and four great artists. This year George Papavgeris, Flossie, Tom Napper and Tom Bliss and the Duncan Macfarlane Band.

Ooops! Sorry, I think my last post sounded a bit negative to Gainsborough, Villan and all at Gainsborough Folk Club. I wasn't having a dig at anyone. Was just thinking aloud as I know there are a lot of people who love going to both and the two clubs always seem to run well alongside each other. I guess that is because both clubs DO co operate so well, that that is possible. Scoffing humble pie and removing foot from mouth....Grovel, grovel!
I like the fact that the MRFC runs as a convert style club as it is different from the sing around type. If Gainsborough was nearer, I would go there as well as some of the Grimsby acousic nights as I enjoy that style of evening, too, so consider yourself fortunate all there, lol! ;-) So, sorry to all concerned if I caused offence, as I wasn't having a dig...just thinking aloud when Oct 20th at Faldingworth was cancelled.
I think it is the fault of those who created the calendar system and the five-week month problem which also affects a couple of the other local music nights I go to on some months, very inconsiderate of them!
BTW is humble pie VERY fattening...I think I have nearly eaten it all, now! LOL!

Is it fair that every thing that little bit further away is on me night week?
Lets just hope that the Gainsbro folk fest goes from strength to strenth and lol that is on a weekend when i should be able to go!
Streuth that is flaming amazing.
Are there any singarounds for us amateurs?
Come to think of it I wonder if there are any cheap digs iin the area which would be even better.
Hhhmm now to find the Gainsbro Folk festival site for more details.

Rockhen
Gainsborough Folk Festival was there before MRFC got off the ground and I don't have any problems with that. They normally run on the Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
Next year, I have already blanked that date out.
I think that it is a good festival and should be supported by all folkies.I will be there. A lot of hard work goes into setting up these events and an opportunity without travelling very far to see some excellent performers.

Zulu
Thanks for that. It is important that clubs support each other and not compete.

Anybody from MRFC going to Castle Hill School (Live @ Cassies) on Wednesday, to see Tanglefoot, in Gainsborough. They look to be really awseem and shouldn't be missed. Mrs Sooze puts a lot of effort in setting up these gigs and always gets excellent performers in. I for one will be there.
Here is a lionk to their website Tanglefoot

Please support it.

Who cares Les,coz you have a rare thing going on that allows so much freedom for performers.A listening audience and something unique that should be supported for what it is and not where it is.

Looking forward to hearing the infamous (!) Breezy at last. Will be nice to chill a bit more...being MC for the first time WAS very nerve-wracking ....eeek.
For once, I was lost for words... (OK OK...tedious endless jokes about women and talking blah blah LOL!)
Thanks to all above who said nice things. I know from talking to the others, that all four of us (WWW) thoroughly enjoyed hearing everyone else as well as playing. Sounds a bit twee but it really was a good night.
Looking forward to the next one. It is a shame the Gainsbr' festival clashes with the Oct 20th MRFC night, Villan. Probably a wise decision to cancel it, so as to show support to them, as it would probably have affected turnout, but I feel it was a shame that events were arranged there for the Friday night in addition to the Saturday and Sunday 'happenings'. Perhaps they could be persuaded to do it the opposite weekend to MRFC next year, maybe? It is great if the two clubs work together and I know this is the general case.

John Breeze from St Albans Folk Club. You will love this guy Tim. he has a very good voice and plays smashing guitar :-) He does so much for charity (good on yer John) and has a duaghter who is a medal winnner in the Olympics (John's a proud dad).

Excellent support from Stitherum, No Fixed Abode, Elizabeth Padgett & Martin Browne and last but not least Helian Keys.

From: Tim theTwangler

Welll…..
Here it is the greatest and most illiterate review of the smashing gig we had the pleasure of being a part of last night.
First of all were The Twanglers minus Kiwi Di.
Di had been to Leicester for a hospital appointment and the foul weather conditions and car problems made her so late returning to Grimsby that it was not possible for her to play.
This was a shame as she has put in a lot of work and overcome some very painful medical problems.
She provides us with harmonies both vocal and instrumental that really do enhance the sound of our latest set.
I thought Jen was a real brick filling in some of the gaps left by Di and we both really appreciated the support of the audience and the other performers.

Nette and Karl.
These two performers provided a mixed set some of which I was familiar with "Blowing in the wind" being one of those songs that transport us back to the time when folk/protest songs were being hyped up to really mean something in the real world.
Some of it was new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing those too.
I think Nette has a gorgeous voice and I would love to here more of it in the future please.
Not gonna mention that here was yet another very good guitar player because all the guitar players I ever hear are better than me! (SULK)

Andrew Tiffany.
I could listen to this guy all night when is he doing a spotlight Les?
He is a real find for the MRFC and really I cant go through his set one by one because I would just be repeating myself.
Well-chosen, well-played, well sung, well interpreted.
Bloody well done.

Dave and Julie Evardson.

One of the best songwriters around, certainly in this area and with a real "folky" feel to the materiel they perform.
I love the songs the playing and the singing.
Most of all I love the easy and inclusive (of the audience) way that these two take you along with them on whatever journey they choose to make.
It is like being on a guided tour of, a pub/brothel. Or a rope works or a ship in storm
They are great .

W.W.W.

The spotlight guests.

These ladies are my heroes,
I have had the pleasure of attending their practice sessions and seeing all the hard work that goes to make their performance.
They are so talented it makes you sick, or it would if they were not such a lovely and self-effacing bunch of loonies.
Helen writes so many lovely songs and tunes, and Sharon is no slouch at that either!
(I think Mello Cello Chick is the cutest! Because she is so strict LOL)
Jaqui is a very talented multi instrumentalist and always has something nice and positive to say when some of us have played and died on our arses.
They have a gentle humour as befits a ladies group.(No really, stop laughing!)
They can put over Bawdy, heartbreaking, jokey, serious, jiggy and beautiful songs and lyrics.
They can play tunes in any mood you might want and they are all seriously good musicians.
I really enjoyed the set ladies and look forward to hearing you again asap.

The MC.
He he he he he he he he he.
You made that look so easy Helen!
You are gonna be hard to follow.
(Well after they get the stains of the floor anyway)
I thought you were brilliant really.
It is not as easy as people may think
I know I was bricking it when I had a go. and you made a much better than me.

Terry and Gwenda
Thanks to these two we had another sound evenings entertainment.(Groan sorry!)
They did a great job and they put in more hours per Evening than any one else.
They are on duty the whole time we are playing or listening.
Their break time is taken up with sound checks and then there is the set up time and the take down time.
Thank you guys.

Now looking forward to the next time…………..

Your music is unique isnt it?
If you write your own stuff and it isnt just near copies of older or popular songs what can it be but unique?
And you are enthusiastic or you wouldnt be a resident performer would you?

Shame about not getting the Harriwatts Band gig for Helian Keys to support.I guess you wanted me there anyway Les as a huge fan of the band.If anyone not seen them, then put it in diary as a must see gig later in the year.
By the way Tim,that big yellow thing that hangs in the sky of a morning is pollution, that indirectly provides all the work round here.It is even better on nights, coz they can pump even more out while others sleep.Better MRFC is glad it nearly always blows to Europe via Hull most days.Sleep well.

I think there must be many attendees who are much better at explaining why some thing was good to listen, rather than just saying that it was, like I do.
As far as the minidisc thing goes I think will skip that idea as dont know about the cable required and no way of finding out.Bums!

Thanks for the good wishes, zulu. Work is a total pain sometimes and gets in the way of everything!
Is good that Kiwi Di has made such good progress after a recent period of time with health difficulties. Good on ya, Di!
Music is a great medicine, (yes, EVEN better than chocolate!)
Hey Villan, if you give me a list of the events needing mentioning, tomorrow, you won't even have to speak in the break... that is, if you can leave a woman in charge, that long?!!! LOL! We know you are scared when that happens...!

AH I Seee
By going to the first post at the top of the thread you can find out that"Main Guest

Wild Wolds Women

Support Artists

Dave & Julie Evardson
Andrew Tiffany
Tim Leaning
Nette & Karl
are all playing (but not in that order)
That is very clever because it allows potential attendees to check if the evenong will be agood value for all that money.
£3!
Surely those cant be the original artistez for that price, they must be some sort of cover bands like you get on the cheeper CD collections?
WHy I cant believe the value for money you provide Villan.
And you have the wonderful Singer songwriter Helen from the Mild Mold Mummers to act as MC.
Shurely they cant be using new thongs as props this time not at that price.
LOL
