Do any of you Manager bashers ever put the blame on a lot of over-rated players, simply they are not good enough, and England`s section is comprised of very poor teams, as for the two"Irelands", Scotland and Wales,to quote Fraser from Dad`s Army, sherrrrr rrrubish.

Jimlad9 - alright then, if you won't lend big Sam to England, can we borrow him at Leeds for a spell? Looks like we'll soon be changing places with Scunthorpe under the Bates/Wise school of management.

both the England and Ireland managers are crap, neither have acheived anything of note prior to their appointments,.

The fact is the England players are on such obscenely high money with their EPL clubs they would be mad to risk their livelihoods when not playing for their primary source of income. Then there is the presence of a very large number of non-English players of world class in these same clubs which must have some effect psychologically. I remember a time when three or four key players, all from one club, would provide the basis of the national team. Now it seems that players rarely even play in their usual club positions when selected for England.

All these people that say that the manger is wrong, well if you are so good at picking a team then you do it, in other words put up or shut up.
And that goes for any team sport

How about this monkey who goes out and steals things? we could do with somebody smart like that on the job.

And the right coach - always get on the right coach. that's important. Its a game of two halves.

the monkey and the coach.

The problem, as I see it, is the inexplicable tendency of players to hope the man on the ball will do something good, rather than to move into positions to give him passing options. Dribblers and ball players are all very well, but if the opposition knows what is coming, it does not surprise them. The other tactic, of thumping the ball optimistically thirty or forty yards upfield, is not a favourite in the Premier League, so it is baffling to see it from an international team. (Although the opposition never seem to mind it much). Seeing players of the calibre of Lampard and Gerrard constantly passing the ball sideways and backwards in international games is also not what the fans pay their money for. Why do so many of these players shrink a few inches when they pull on an England shirt? The imminent end of Steve McClaren's tenure is to be welcomed, but I would never underestimate the ability of the FA to find someone even worse!

On the one hand,England had a good record under Ericsson.

On the other,is it in the """"""English"""""genes not to change for anybody?

How much are English clubs succeeding by virtue of the non-English players?

Let us get back to basics.
"Now lads see those two white posts over there with the bar on top.The idea is to get the ball in there and stop the other team getting the ball in our one.Passing it too and fro across the pitch to a friend and then getting it back again does not win us the game".

When the team from Liechtenstein takes the field, England and Israel will both be nothing but a quickly fading memory.

I thought England were very very poor.

McClaren is definately the wrong man for the job. he doesn't seem to have a clue what he is doing.

Having said that, they will probably go on and win the competition LOL
Come to think of it, do they still have a chance of getting through?

What's the point of England getting into the Euro 2008 finals anyway? On present performance, we wouldn't get out of the group stage. How can a team of so much premiership talent fail to score so consistently when playing for England? McClaren must take the blame - is he a Scottish plant I wonder - the clue might be in the name. Sam Allardyce would certainly motivate this bunch with a few choice words. Get Stevie Gerrard back into central midfield for a start - that can't be rocket science!

Israel were basically the team that scuppered Ireland's chances of qualification for the 2006 World Cup. We had two draws with them, both of which should have been Irish wins.

The days of minnows you can easily beat have gone in most cases, and Israel definitely don't fall into that category any longer (if they ever did). A draw away from home is not to be sneered at - I didn't see the game so I don't know what the overall performance was like.

Ireland won today, but you wouldn't think so to talk to a lot of Irish soccer fans. Granted the Irish performance was far from satifactory.

Was it just the bits I saw or did the Israeli team spend a great deal of the match trying to bodysurf on the turf? Every time I looked, there was one spreadeagled on the grass.

Look on the bright side of it Jim. It may be worth not qualifying to shorten Steve McClaren's tenure. At any rate, until we shed the strange illusion that you can win international tournaments playing English football, it is unlikely England will ever be a football team of international standing!
