Whoops, Kendall warned me that using humourous unlikely thread titles, to illustrate why trad threads go into the dumpster so quickly these days would backfire. (see "Mudcat clique" thread)

In truth, though, I have to give credit to the origins of the "Elk's Crotch" line.

Many years ago when Tony Quarrington and I were touring this fair land, we would while away the long drives by writing "comedy routines". We'd look at the map and laugh histerically at some of the "real" Canadian place names, and try to "one-up" them. After all it's hard to improve on places like "Moose Jaw Sask." or "Dildo" Newfoundland. "Balls Falls" Ontario, is right up there as well.

After a while, these phony places would start cropping up in our resumes. ie: "last year Rick participated at the annual Beaverburg Dew Worm Festival". We were silly people in those days.

Rick went to the Elk's Crotch to provide musical therapy for its piles, and he is using the delicate D Chord technique he learned from Big Mick.

Mick would have gone to help the elk himself but he was too big for the crotch.

Damn, I missed that one. And I checked the Web site, and there is nothing there! What's wrong? Fans of Elk's Crotch know that it is a sylvan spot, with extraordinary fans, some of whom appear to have been born in modal tunings, if I can put it that way. Rick's appearances there have always prompted the city fathers to close the city for the day. What a pity.
