Subject: RE: Get More Folk in New York City!!!! From: Suffet Date: 29 Mar 01 - 07:01 AM And for those who want to actually hear Joy Bennett in person, along with some other very talented folks, I recommend the following gig at the PEOPLES' VOICE CAFE at The Workmen's Circle, 45 East 33rd Street (between Madison & Park Avenues) in New York City: Saturday, April 28, 2001 8:00 PM WATER SIGN Water Sign's music is a journey on "America's deep river of song." Building bridges across generations and among the multitude of cultures that have influenced our musical heritage, they are especially devoted to keeping alive the wonderful traditions of close vocal harmony and community singing. Whether performing contemporary or original songs, or offering traditional tunes with contemporary harmonies, working a capella or with instrumentation, theirs is a program of fun, creativity, humor, insight, and spirit. THE SINGING CONQUERORS The Singing Conquerors, NYC's only bluegrass gospel group, plays a unique style of music which blends Anglo- and African-American musical traditions. Founded in 1992, the group has played for a wide variety of audiences -- at the White House, the Ralph Stanley Bluegrass Festival, and on the Bobby Jones Gospel Hour on BET. Upcoming appearances include the Podunk Blueegrass Festival as well as the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, in July 2001. Bill has become one of the most popular singers on the folk circuit today and averages around 200 concert dates a year. Bill weaves a gentle blend of wit and humor into his performances. Bill sings mostly his own songs, and his music is a slice of Americana, reflecting with the same ease his feelings about the prairie people of the Midwest or the adventurers of the Yukon. Among his best known compositions are A Place In the Choir, River, and Roseville Fair. Between his own creations, Bill intersperses songs ranging from traditional folk ballads to contemporary country, and he enjoys having the audience participate in many of the numbers.
