Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Snuffy Date: 25 Apr 03 - 09:00 AM Jane Last year, the pub singing/sessions seemed to finish about 1pm. Sat & Sun evenings the Rugby club pavilion on the campsite was open till much later for late night noisemaking - Sun I left after 4.30 (i.e. when the beer had totally sold out). This was for festival ticket holders only, and there were stewards there to enforce it. Campsite residents without festival tickets were turned away. Friday night only the toilet/shower part of the pavilion was open and a few brave souls had a go there. WassaiL! v |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Mrs.Duck Date: 25 Apr 03 - 07:28 AM Are there any late night singing etc at the campsite? And what about kids are there any child friendly venues or activities? Really looking forward to being there - oh and just a word of warning - if you do see someone dressed in red just check that it isn't a duck in disguise although he doesn't always limit himself to one colour it does sometimes happen! |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Mr Red Date: 24 Apr 03 - 10:18 AM Ella Yes and maybe. Upton is all about hanging-out and being laid-back. The Muggery is a singaround come session most of the time, but people do get played-out. The Swan is very much a "whoever is here" and there is often a session in the yard daytime. And the Kings Head can be a session (or two). Evenings I am usually dancing or stewarding so I rarely see the sessions then. Check-out the survivors session Monday night in the --- ah now there you have me. Pick a venue, listen to the gossip and you will still be wrong, but survivors sessioning there will be. Somewhere. Look for RED. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: The Admiral Date: 24 Apr 03 - 09:21 AM And anybody who's up for it is welcome to come to my Shanty and Seasong Workshop at 10.00 on Saturday morning. Yes, I know that it sounds like hard work at that time the morning after the festival opens but it's always been worth doing. See you there! Tony |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: vectis Date: 23 Apr 03 - 07:09 PM I'll be there with The Travelling Folk from Kent and also with the Shellbacks. Should see some Catters in the White Lion (or horse oe whatever the animal is) for a sing over the course of the weekend. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Apr 03 - 05:49 PM I will be there with Maidenhead folk club with one or two Catters included.See you all there. |

Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: the lemonade lady Date: 07 May 02 - 12:18 PM I did it - Here I am - pressed all the right buttons and 'wooosh' I arrived on the bottom of this page! Actually Mr Red has been nagging me to join, did you see him at Upton? I did. Also Nutty was there and left a message on my noticeboard. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Snuffy Date: 07 May 02 - 09:34 AM It was great to see (and hear) you, Sally. Unfortunately I never really did get down to the riverside, but I promise to come and try your hangover cure next time, whether I need it or not! WassaiL! V PS - cookies go well with lemonade - why not join? |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: GUEST,Mrs Lemon Date: 07 May 02 - 09:17 AM Well I had a great time. I sold lots of Lemonade, sang lots of songs, and put some names to faces. Thanks for writing messages on my noticeboard. I think Trevor's idea of "putting a 'catters noticeboard on my Lemonade shop" will be a regular feature. I met Vectis and her beer towels, Snuffy who sang some lovely songs in The White Lion. I didn't put a face on Salty Dog tho', so maybe we'll meet next time! Thanks everyone, see some of you at Wheaton Aston maybe? |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Menita Date: 07 May 02 - 09:04 AM I sang my little heart out too in the White Lion. Fell asleep on the way home I'd done so much! I think the notice board on the lemonade van is a great idea, (why have I never drunk lemonade before? It's brilliant for a hangover!) We can hunt eachother down or just leave secret messages! Who IS that Salty Dog?? LA |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Trevor Date: 07 May 02 - 06:39 AM Well I'm knackered!. But I did get to hear a nightingale. Good idea of Mrs Lemon's to put a 'catters noticeboard on her Lemonade shop. Should become a regular feature - what do you say Sal? |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Abuwood Date: 07 May 02 - 04:24 AM Yes it was a wonderful Upton, and as usual the weather was kind to the dancers (and Mummers) amongst us. Rebooked at the Swan, look forward to seeing you all again next year. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Snuffy Date: 06 May 02 - 05:38 PM Wonderful festival and wonderful singing. I've never sung so much in my life. Started at 10 am Sat & Sun & finished at 3 and 4.30 am respectively. Tremendous singing in the White Lion - the landlord told us that Sunday was the best single day's takings in his seven years there - may have something to do with the fact I spent 13 hours there, with a couple of breaks to perform with the Shellbacks. See you all at Alcester - the Holly Bush just happens to be my local. WassaiL! V |
