'Sawright KL -- it is only human to want your leaders to be coherent and speak your language, and to raise their children well. Sadly, none of the above apply to clan Bush.

You're welcome. I'd also like to apologise for not being stronger. I'd said I wasn't going to contribute anymore to the negative crap about politics and all it took was these two! I am weak, someone save me!!**bG**

Sure, Roope, though I may have mispoke the drinking part...it seems unclear:

On the evening of 6 November 1963, two days after her 17th birthday, Laura Welch failed to stop her Chevy sedan at a stop sign and smashed into a Corvair being driven by a school chum, Michael Douglas, also 17. Laura and her passenger, Judy Dykes, were treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, where they learned that Douglas had died from his injuries. No police charges were filed, apparently, but paperwork from the accident is missing or unclear and the details of the incident are a bit of a mystery. Now Laura Welch is married to U. S. president George W. Bush and is known around the world as LAURA BUSH. The story made national news during the presidential election of 2000, but little new information came to light. At the time her spokesman, Andrew Malcolm, said "To this day Mrs. Bush remains unable to talk about it."

I heard them on an NPR story this morning and was appalled. Just watched a video of them at the washington post. The link might not work unless you sign in. In the video, they look and sound like ignorant white trash. Interesting that they could not say one thing of substance, contrasted to what Kerry's kids were like. There's just no comparison...it's like comparing a one-celled amoeba brain matching wits with someone like Stephen Hawking, etc. If I was a GOP member, I would have curled up and died of embarassment last night. It's bad enough we've had their smary, smirking ass of a dad representing our country for the past four years. Imagine what other countries must think when they see and hear these two! Really instills confidence in us, no?

I guess the good thing is they haven't killed anyone while drunk driving like their role-model mother did when she was their age.

To me the sad part of all this is that future generations---and even this one, to some extent, do not and will not remember what a real covention was. It was not a staged Bway production. It meant something.

As one interviewee on a radio program said--a writer, I believe---"...in those days it worked because there was dealing going on by the power brokers who knew what was going on---now we expect the lowest common denominator to elect someone just like them because they like his TV persona. The world is too complicated for that".

I watched CSpan2 for a while on Monday---Stevenson, Ike, JFK, etc; at conventions. That was intelligence and oratory---I was not an Ike supporter, but in hindsight his railing against the military industrial complex (and him a general) was so prescient. Did not help, sadly. And Stevenson---he spoke ideas---but, unfortunately, we are back to the denominator thing I spoke of---hurt him too

I didn't like the way they joked about their grandmother. I've never been a fan of Barbara Bush But she should only have to take that stuff from late night comedians. Not from her own family.

Were I the parents of the Kerry girls(the guys were also great)I think my buttons would have popped off my shirt from the pride at hearing them speak. And also their accomplishments this far in their lives.

Were I the parents of the Bush girls---knowing them I would have been too ashamed to let them loose on a listening public---but, then again, they may know that they are playing to the lowest (of the lowest) common---and I mean common--denominators.

I do believe it shows us ---the disparity between them--the disparity of the intellect and knowledge of the world of the two sets of parents==ok nitpickers---3 sets (or is it 4). Either way---Kerry's Kids should do more appearances---now how is that for a slogan---Kerry's Kids for Kinship and Knowledge and Kerry.

I mentioned Britney Spears only because I did not want to mention Hiltons---but you are so right. Though, Britney was a bomb in the Farenheit911 bit she did---moronic to the extreme.

They are not, Doug. If, however, they are going to stand up and speak at the Convention and be televised throughout the world, why not give them something intelligent to say? Why have one appear in jeans? What was the message? Who was it designed to reach? And why the "in your face" quips about their "troubles".

Whoever was responsible for the content of their "speech" and their dress should be fired. This is how the world perceives young America. The two of them should have been kept quietly on the sidelines looking pretty and hugging Grandma.

then why did they get all that valuble air time? Anyone that is put on that stage to REPRESENT the party is fair game for commentary...the Republicans sure didn't hesitate to comment about some of the appearances at Kerry's little do.

I turned it off when Elizabeth Dole started proselytizing from the pulpit podium.

No matter what, no one can say we don't have a clear choice and a disparity of attitudes between the parties this year.....I have seldom seen such sanctimonious parroting and Gerrymandering of ideas!.

I did read this morning that whoever wrote the girls' lines will be "walking the beaches in Alaska"....but what COULD they have written for them?

All 4 Kerry offspring are personable and erudite. The Bushettes---smack of Britney Spear knockoffs. Sad.

I'm trying to avoid all of that stuff. Did you hear that in NYC the police are being rather slow to release arrested protestors, and the media haven't been allowed to visit the holding facility to report on the conditions or the reasons for keeping those folks out of circulation?

I sat in stunned silence as bush's two daughters exchanged some truly mindless patter written for them by a refugee from the Academy Awards. It was sophomoric, tasteless, and incredibly glib - apparently their drug and alcohol problems can be written off as "We're young and foolish." And they are glad Dad is running for office because now that they are out of school they have nothing better to do.

While asking my self if I would have been as offended had it been Kerry's children, I turned to a news channel where a Dem, a Rep, and a newscaster were discussing the same thing. The dem. was horrified, the newscaster was smirking like this is the best thing that had happened in the whole convention, and the best the Rep could come up with was "Well it probably hasn't cost him any votes." The other two disagreed and he nodded sheepishly.

What the hell were they thinking? It wasn't "cute". It did not resonate of Lucie Byrd Johnson doing the Frug. Anyone else catch their act?
