Not a great work of literature, just something for the rest of you to work on! Cheers JennieG |

Subject: RE: Song Challenge - Sheep or Poodle From: JohnInKansas Date: 28 Apr 07 - 09:10 PM Well Charley, I suggested in the other thread that we might send them to NoDak1 as "Russian Brides." I omitted some other places where they might "pass" due to my provincial thinking about the high transportation costs to other places, and hope no one feels slighted. 1 North Dakoto is populated by some (albeit very few)2 very nice people; but being a remote and relatively unknown and misunderstood place for people in the central US, NoDaks become the "target" for jokes when the "Arky's and the teeth brush" genre gets a little tiresome. Many of the NoDak jokes revolve around sheep, I suppose since they are known to have some. Nobody really believes(?) most of the stories and no offense is intended. I've heard there might be similar places on the other side of the water? 2 I meant very few people, not just very few nice people. Dang it - this get into all kinds of quibbling and equivocating. Fortunately I'm not much of a lyricist, so I think I can just slink out of here. John |

Subject: RE: Song Challenge - Sheep or Poodle From: Charley Noble Date: 28 Apr 07 - 08:22 PM John- Thanks for encouraging the song challenge anyway! As one who composed a brilliant song about the cow falling from the sky and sinking a Japanese fishing trawler, I am sensitive to such shams. But the question remains, what do we do with 2000 virtual sheep-poodles? And why didn't someone in the story suggest that the nefarious company was "pulling the wool over the eyes" of its customers? Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Song Challenge - Sheep or Poodle From: JohnInKansas Date: 28 Apr 07 - 08:12 PM Easy to miss with the "cute" title, but the case has been pretty thoroughly discussed at BS: Schoodle or peep?. Unfortunately, the story probably isn't true, but it still might make a song. John |

Subject: Song Challenge - Sheep or Poodle From: oldhippie Date: 28 Apr 07 - 08:03 PM There must be a song in this AP article. A Japanese actress inadvertantly blew the lid off a scam which had duped thousands of women into buying coiffured sheep in the belief they were poodles, the Evening Standard reports. Maiko Kawakami appeared on a TV talk show with snaps of her pet, and admitted she wondered why it "didn't bark and refused to eat dog food". She was soon set straight - her dog was in fact a sheep. The revelation provoked a stream of women to contact the cops with "similar problems". The powers that be reckon that as many as 2,000 have fallen victim to the audacious ovine poodle con, perpetrated by internet company "Poodles as Pets", which offered the animals at £630 a pop. A police spokesman told The Sun: "We launched an investigation after we were made aware that a company was selling sheep as poodles. The sheep are believed to have been imported from overseas - Britain and Australia." In case you're wondering how on God's Green Earth you could mistake a sheep for a dog, the Standard explains that poodles are "extremely rare in Japan, with many people having little idea what they look like". |
