Subject: RE: BS: Horrible Censorship Strikes From: John Hardly Date: 02 Aug 07 - 05:05 PM •In 1993, it featured a front-page photo, shot from a low-flying plane, of the Lake Erie Monster – a 200-ton, "dinosaur-like" leviathan – slicing a 38-foot sailboat in half. •Five years ago, it revealed that Cleveland was being invaded by superaggressive Brazilian cockroaches "as big as kittens," which were eating bread by the loaf and were suspected of devouring 168 local dogs and cats. •It disclosed that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum was a spirit-channeling pyramid through which a psychic was picking up new songs being co-written by George Harrison, Roy Orbison and John Lennon. And only WWN reported that an Amish horse-and-buggy team had qualified for the Kentucky Derby. I loved this paragraph in the story... "The paper then billed itself as "The World's Only Reliable Newspaper" and a "journal of information and opinion." In 2004, however, it began noting that "the reader should suspend disbelief for the sake of enjoyment." |

Subject: RE: BS: Horrible Censorship Strikes From: Ebbie Date: 02 Aug 07 - 04:48 PM Weekly World News, Q, is one of those tabloids that popped up after the National Enquirer became popular in certain quarters. "Baby Born with a Wooden Leg", "Chicken Hatched with a Human Face", "Life After Death - Guaranteed! are among typical headlines one sees from the checkstands. Endlessly entertaining. |

Subject: RE: BS: Horrible Censorship Strikes From: John Hardly Date: 02 Aug 07 - 11:08 AM Naw. I was seeing humor in the closing of the doors of The Weekly World News. Wondering, hmmm.......where will everyone get their dose of "News" of alien invasions, celebrity divorces, alien divorces, celebrity invasions. Such a dreadful News vacuum, I fear. |

Subject: RE: BS: Horrible Censorship Strikes From: Bill D Date: 02 Aug 07 - 09:20 AM however....by editing the above line to http://www.spokesmanreview.com/, I was able to access the home page. They seem to have restricted full FREE access to print suscribers, all others would have to pay $7 month. Sad, but maybe they had bandwidth problems. In any case, it ain't exactly 'censorship'. |
