Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: Peace Date: 22 Sep 07 - 06:01 PM George Bush is an alcohol related tragedy! "NELSON Mandela yesterday assured the world that, contrary to the impression given by the President of the US, reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated. Even for blunder-prone George Bush, it was a gaffe of toe-curling proportions. Defending his stand on the war, Mr Bush said Saddam Hussein's brutality made it impossible for a unifying leader to emerge to halt civil warfare that has torn Iraq apart. "I heard somebody say, 'Where's Mandela?'," Mr Bush said. "Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas." The South African authorities were besieged with calls after Mr Bush's speech, which was carried live on TV. Many viewers feared the country's first black president and Nobel Peace Prize winner had died." |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: Mr Red Date: 22 Sep 07 - 12:43 PM degree proof is based on the concentration that when poured over gunpowder it will ignite = 100 deg = proof spirit. 100% ABV = 180 deg proof. You do the maths but it ain't that important as the concequences of drink driving. Is is OK to say "Fire Water" or is there a more PC expression these days? |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: fretless Date: 21 Sep 07 - 05:25 PM Whiskey on the highway is always a tragedy, but the greatest whisky crash story remains Compton MacKenzie's Whisky Galore (a.k.a. Tight Little Island in the cinematic version). |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: Grab Date: 19 Sep 07 - 08:36 PM The crash remained under investigation. Presumably by the firemen, who'll keep on investigating until that truck's empty... |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: Wesley S Date: 19 Sep 07 - 10:45 AM That would make it 90 proof. "Proof" is double the alcohol content by volume. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: GUEST,T.Total Date: 19 Sep 07 - 10:41 AM What's the difference in describing something as "80 Proof" and something as "40% alcohol by volume"? And when something is "45% alcohol by volume", what Proof does that make it? |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Sep 07 - 06:42 AM Tell ya' what Phil, losing a truckload of your stuff would be a cause for celebration to most Americans who know Jack makes the "real deal." Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: JohnInKansas Date: 18 Sep 07 - 09:31 PM It looks to me like that's mostly diesel smoke, or at worst some of the paper/cardboard packing. The Jack, if lit, should burn hot enough to clean up some of the black soot from other sources even, although at the normal 80 proof it would be pretty hard to get much of it going. Be sure to visit the nearby damaged freight outlets to see if they've got some bargains in about a week - if the revenooers don't get it all. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: Peace Date: 18 Sep 07 - 06:05 PM Our department would have had that blaze extinguished in a trice. The fire tetrahedron includes heat, oxygen, sustained chemical reaction and fuel. Remove any one of those things and the fire goes out. In this case I would have suggested that we deplete the fuel load. |

Subject: RE: BS: Yet Another Alcohol Related Tragedy From: Rapparee Date: 18 Sep 07 - 04:00 PM Well, hell, it's only Black Jack. Now if it were Bookers or Knob Creek or something good it'd be another story.... |

(We had a truckload of lobsters overturn 'round here a few years ago....folks were stopped all over the interstate 495, trying to chase down supper without being bitten or arrested) (and did you get that last PM...) |
