I don't think that a lot of what Ann Coulter says is intended as a joke. I think it is intended to get her attention in the media so she can sell more books and make more money.

Remember that a lot of what Coulter says is meant to be a joke. She even hires joke writers to enliven her books.
Just do not take her real seriously.

What amazes ME is how easy it is psychologically to hold any political agenda and justify it by claiming "Christian"..(or any other) religious doctrine supports it!

It is a complex weaving of 'belief' with wishful thinking and cultural/ethnic/religious prejudice until one has a fabric of Gerrymandered interlocking personal ideas...all of whom 'seem', with enough rhetotical slipperiness, to support each other.

ONE of the identifying characteristics of those who espouse right/conservative causes is often an unswerving allegiance to some religous doctrine. It is often BECAUSE they are sure that certain moral and/or political principles are supported by the religious cause they espouse that they feel secure, like Coulter, in denigrating other religious and political groups...and even more so, those who do not HAVE a religious group. It is for people like Coulter that the word 'sanctimonious' was coined.!

Is it any wonder we have such a hard time separating church & state when so many in 'church' are determined to affect 'state'...all for the 'obvious' good of all, of course!

(do I sound cynical? Good!)

Of course those on the political left can BE religious...and Christian - but they are usually folks who can keep the presumed issue of their relationship with their God separate from their respect for the chosen ways of those who do NOT trod the same path....and I know a bunch, thank....ummmm...goodness.

Ann Coulter has learned to feed herself...literally...she writes books and gets speaking fees - by making herself a lightning rod of controversy and catering to the narrow-minded prejudices of others who place arrogant, smug disparagement of others over a simpler, quiet practice of their beliefs.

I wish people would quit giving her a free podium to spew her crap...let her BUY time like the TV evangelists.

Ann Coulter is the greatest comedienne in history.

Everything she says is a joke. And what amplifies the joke is that people don't understand that it's a joke. But the biggest joke of all is that Ann Coulter herself doesn't get the joke! She IS the joke. She's one verbal pratfall after another. The appropriate response to her is not outrage, but laughter.

If history remembers her at all, it will be with a chuckle and a shake of the head.

It astonishes me that anyone would BE astonished that someone on the "left" could be a Christian.... ;-)

I've known a great many people on the left who had deep spiritual values, whether Christian or otherwise. Many of the early leftist leaders in Great Britain and North America were deeply religious, and many of them were members of the clergy. Leftist movements in Latin America have often been greatly assisted by members of the clergy. To be "leftist" is not necessarily to be atheist or non-religious, and Jesus himself appears to have espoused values that are much in harmony with a good deal of leftist philosophy.

On the other hand, I'm not at all astonished that people on the Right can consider themselves to be Christians...or Muslims...or Jews...or Buddhists...or atheists...or whatever. Why not?

It makes little difference, in fact. It's only in the USA that the Right has associated itself so strongly with a certain form of fundamentalist Christianity. Many people in the USA are perhaps unaware that their situation is unique in the World in that respect. It is not the case in the rest of the World that the Right of the political spectrum is so closely associated with what I would term the more radical or the stricter forms of Christian doctrine that have arisen in the past couple of hundred years (the "born again" movement, the evangelists, etc).

It's not a question of what God checks out about individuals; its about the bigotry and tunnel vision of Coulter's fans, and her use of bizarre religious labels to justify hatred, and the bush button categories she uses to pigeonhole people.

Good song! In another 10 years - five, if we're lucky - Coulter will have been forgotten. In the meantime I expect American comedians are grateful for her efforts.

A 'perfected' Jew, by the way, is one who has accepted that Jesus was the Messiah. It boggles my mind that Coulter thinks that she is Christian! Wonder what preachers are saying about her?
