He was also great at improvising solos on the fiddle - my fave on record - his contribution on 'Murder of Maria Marten' (Shirley Collins & Albion Country Band) - Cheers! - Duncan

I remember Nic playing a particular gig in Merseyside back in the 70s. He had intended to play his fiddle as part of his performance, but some ace Irish fiddler did floor spot and Nic decided to leave his fiddle in its case!

He also played the role of The Father on the original recording of Peter Bellamy's The Transports

He played fiddle Peter Bellamy's 'Merlin's Isle of Gramarye' - sterling stuff throughout.

I adored Nic's fiddle playing and sat next to him in many a session trying to play like him. His style was deceptively easy and while I was sitting alongside him I could play like that. When I tried it next day.... no chance. I'll probably never really know what it was that made him sound like that as I'll not be able to watch his bowing again. I'll just have to keep listening.

It's often forgotten that Nic Jones was a great fiddle player of dance tunes.
