Receiving no reply, I can only assume that DK is referring to the tracks 'Lord Lovell' and 'Farewell To Miltown malbay'.
Both were sung by Tom Lenihan on 'Garland', on 'Hills they are sung by Nora Cleary and Kitty hayes respectively.

DK,
Sorry, can't lay my hands on our copy of Garland at the moment, can you tell me which tracks appear on both? I thought we'd avoided re-using any songs which had been issued already, apart from Martin Howley's version of 'Fair Margaret and Sweet William' (Child 253 - quaintly entitled by Martin 'The Old Armchair') which was incuded on Tom Munnelly's magnificent 'Ancient Ballads of Ireland' which has been unavailable for many years.

There are in fact two in common, but my intention was to point people to more songs from the same area, I own, and enjoy the CDs and the boxed set.

To put the record straight - there are no songs on Around The Hills of Clare that are included on the Mount Callan Garland cassettes, though, of course, transcriptions of Tom Lenihnan's songs are in the M.C.G. book.

The book and tapes 'The Mount Callan Garland - Songs from the repertoire of Tom Lenihan' covers some
of the same material but is worth having if you can find it. It consists of a boxed set of two tapes and a book of some 150 pages, and is produced by Comhairle Bhéaloideas Éireann.

Available from CAMSCO, of course (I don't know of anyone else in the US carrying it)

I have just purchased a copy of this double cd.
It has a very well produced booklet with comprehensive notes on the singers and their material.
The material covers a broad spectrum, ranging from Child Ballads, comic songs, lilting,a Recitation, through to songs about the Shannon Scheme, and the EastClare Election of 1917.
I particuarly enjoyed the singing of Tom Lenihan,Ollie Conway,Nora Cleary and Kitty Hayes,Iwould have liked to have a little more of the lilting [particuarly The Garden of Daisies,a set dance rarely heard in my area].
Each CD has a running time of 77 Plus minutes, contains some fine singing and unusual songs, which I am sure I will enjoy over Christmas, and anticipate dipping into to broaden my repertoire.
I have been involved with singing traditional unaccompanied songs and listening to traditional singers for 40 years, and would recommend this double cd to like minded people.
As contributors to this forum know, I have had many disagreements with Jim Carroll, however these CDS are in my opinion a good listen, and a good buy,.
Both the CD and the booklet are in my opinion well produced ,the booklet has comprehensive notes, with detailed information about the singers and the songs.Dick Miles
