Not the least, in the title. Just to make all clear, I'm looking for the last (French) verse to "I made a big mistake," from Any Old Time String Band's CD.

Subject: Lyr Add: BALFA'S WALTZ and VALSE DES ORPHELINS
From: Q (Frank Staplin)
Date: 12 Jan 08 - 08:36 PM

The following from "Musiciens cadiens et créoles - The Makers of Cajun Music," Barry Jean Ancelet, 1984. Univ. Texas Press.
Here is the verse posted by Josh.

Lyr. Add: BALFA'S WALTZ*
Will Bolfa (Balfa clan)

Ça, ça a cassé mon coeur, chère.

(When I left home, I had made up my mind,
I was going to find you or die trying. When
I finally found you, you were with another. That
broke my heart. I'd rather die than see that.
Of every five days of my life, I'd throw
three away, to spend the other two with you.
I want to die in your arms.)

"My late father used to play the tune of the "Balfa's Waltz." ... I composed the words myself. ...When I saw Dewey sometime later I told him about this song... we decided to record it. I gave it the name "Balfa's Waltz" for the family.   My wife and I get along very well together... You have to look for the words that fit the song. And I felt that those words fit it well...." Will Bolfa.

In 1978, Dewey's brothers were killed in an automobile accident. In 1980, his wife, Hilda, who had always provided him with a secure home base from which to work, died of trichinosis. In 1982, Dewey was presented the National Heritage Award by the National Endowmwnt for the Arts.
Here are Dewey's words to the traditional "Valse des orphelins," which he felt suited him. He continued (1984) to perform, with Rodney's son Tony carrying on the spirit.

Lyr. Add: LA VALSE DES ORPHELINS
Trad., arr. Dewey Balfa

orphelin.

(My relatives are almost all dead and, of those
who remain, none will see me. When I'm ill, I have
to depend on strangers and I have to take my suffering
as it comes. My mother always told me not to listen
to the advice of others. Today, I'm alone in the streets.
All I have left is the life of an orphan.)

Subject: Lyr Add: JE SUIS ORPHELIN (Dewey Balfa)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 12 Jan 08 - 05:52 PM

The following lyrics are copied from here. That page also has music notation in waltz time, so I think it might be a version of the song you want.

JE SUIS ORPHELIN
Dewey Balfa

Subject: Lyr Add: J'AI FAIT UNE GROSSE ERREUR (Iry Lejeune)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 12 Jan 08 - 05:27 PM

When I searched for the lines you quoted, I found this. I know it's not the same song, but since it has a couple of lines in common, I thought it might be helpful:

J'AI FAIT UNE GROSSE ERREUR
Iry Lejeune

From: GUEST,Josh in Martinez
Date: 11 Jan 08 - 12:19 PM

Way back in the when, Any Old Time recorded Valse de Orphelin:

On the day I left my home
Said 'Goodbye, sweetheart, I'm gone'...

At the end a verse is sung in French. I can't quite make it out; can anyone supply the words? Verse begins something like this:

Quand j'ai quitte la maison
Mo', j' croyais j'avais raison ...

(I think my spelling is incorrect - apologies to those who know better, who may wince.)
