Our Everything Malvina thread contains a fairly complete list of all her songs published in songbooks, and I didn't see any "hugs" songs listed.

Stan Kelly, I believe, was responsible for the four pound parody - my third line is "Some want the rain to go to Spain, we want the rain to stay". On the main topic, I recall Earl Robinson singing this at Expo '74 in Spokane.

Somewhere i have a 60s parody of this song, entitled £4 a day.

Stuart Stotts and Tom Pease recorded a different song called 8 HUGS A DAY on their children's album "Everybody Started Out Small," 2007. There is a 2-minute sound sample at CD Baby, which sounds as if it might be the whole song:

I didn't find any song called TWELVE HUGS A DAY, but I found some similar titles:

Paula James recorded FOUR HUGS A DAY on her album "Sweet Country Love," 2002. I transcribed this from a sound sample at Amazon.com:

Well, it didn't take me very long to see that he was right....

Perhaps not but I think she sang it. it is the sort of thought she would have had and expressed. It is at least a Malvina type song.
