Peter, it looks as though it may have been Paul Robeson. I am finding listings for him singing "Round the bend in the road." IT was on youtube, but it has been removed. Here's a listing:

Peter, I found a CD with the same name which has a song by that name. You can listen to a snippet of it HERE. It doesn't sound like what you described, but may be the right song.

Hi, no I have nothing else. I know it is old -- 30's, 40's -- it was being broadcast on a store Ipod hookup, so no one in the store had the slightest idea what it was, nor could they go back and replay it.

Sort of thing that drives you nuts.

I recently heard in a stor some fragments of a lovely old spiritual, lines of which included "after the bend in the road" -- the voice was a deep rich Paul Robeson type (though not Robeson I think).

Anyone know anything about this song?

This is not the Eddy Arnold "Just A Bend In The Road."
