Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: GUEST,crazy little woman Date: 21 Feb 08 - 11:40 PM Funny you should say that, leeneia. Here's the whole story, which you will never see on CNN. A while ago, Bobert posted that he was coming to us from space, and Leeneia asked him to throw a nice meteorite into her yard in Missouri. A carbonara condra, or something like that, although that sounds like Italian food more than anything else. Bobert had reservations at first, but after a while he decided to try it. He looked up the co-ordinates for Missouri, but his eyes skipped a line and he wound up shoving the meteorite toward Missoula instead. Unfortunately, Bobert doesn't know his own strength, and he overshot Missoula with the result that the meteorite was seen in Washington. All clear now? |

Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 21 Feb 08 - 01:28 PM Thanks for posting, Alice. It's so rare to see any footage of a meteor, even if it is mere surveillance footage. I wish I could have seen it. Before doing anything else, we should check to see if Bobert is still in space. He might have been behind all this. |

Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: Sorcha Date: 20 Feb 08 - 07:50 PM Be damned if I can even remember the year, but mid 60's I'm sure. I was young, and I can't remember if my sister was born, but I think she was, which would make it after May 59. Winfield, Kansas. It was late, we were all in bed. My brothers room had eye level windows all around, and suddenly the entire house, but most especially his room (because of the windows) was lit with a very red light. Loud whooshing sound....and a ball with a red trail of 'fire'. It 'looked' like it landed in the next block...but of course not. Never a word from anyone else, neighbors, etc, or any 'news' about it. I still wonder what it was. |

Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: Donuel Date: 20 Feb 08 - 07:49 PM This last fall China demonstrated that they could blow up a satllite from the ground...this caused a terrible added space junk problem and more cold war jitters. You don't think this is our military way of saying "oh yeah, watch this?" The sattilite never made a stable orbit to start with and we never blew up sattilites when they were about to crash before - even when it was sky lab. |

Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: Don Firth Date: 20 Feb 08 - 06:55 PM Denver, spring of 1956. I was staying there off and on for about a year and a half. One evening, just a bit after sundown, a friend and I were sitting outside on a couple of lawn chairs, talking and just generally loafing on a pleasant spring evening when suddenly everything lit up. A meteor streaked across the sky. Big sucker! I saw it split into three parts and continue toward the horizon. "Did you see that!?" I asked my friend. "Yes!" she said. Then, many seconds later, we heard what sounded like distant thunder echoing across the sky. I don't know if we were hearing a sonic boom or the sound of an impact somewhere. Oddly enough, nothing on the news. Nothing in the papers. Were Mary Anne and I the only people to see it? I would hardly think so. Anyone outside at the time couldn't possibly have missed it. I've seen a lot of meteors since then (during meteor showers and such) but I've never seen anything quite as impressive as that. Don Firth P. S. No, I don't think it was an alien mothership and two shuttles. P. P. S. As far as the satellite is concerned, I don't think they've taken a shot at it yet. The navy was going to try it today as it passed over the north Pacific, but I understand it's been postponed due to bad weather. |

Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: Bill D Date: 20 Feb 08 - 04:59 PM those things always look like they are landing 'just over the hill'. I saw one in Kansas about 1954 that I gather actually hit somewhere near N. Mexico. (I was a paperboy, and it lit up the sky enough that I could read a book on a dark street) |

Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: Rapparee Date: 20 Feb 08 - 04:46 PM The USAF has secured the entires states of Idaho and Washington as well as parts of Alberta and British Columbia. It's another Roswell! Only this time all they've found is a partially burned door with a name plate on it reading "Shatn" and a above the "t". Nobody yet knows what it means. |

Subject: RE: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: Amos Date: 20 Feb 08 - 03:57 PM IT is highly improbable that the area where it landed was scoured and no sign of impact was found. C'mon, now---if a fireball or meteor hits from black space, you know its gotte be moving at a serious clip. So they didn't cross-correlate the landing site well, or else it was some kind of miracle... A |

Subject: BS: Meteor, NWest USA, video From: Alice Date: 20 Feb 08 - 02:45 PM Yesterday morning in the dark sky over Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon, people saw a huge ball of colored light come down and crash to earth. People close enough to the impact heard a sonic boom and felt the impact. It hit south of Spokane, Washington, which is in the eastern part of the state near northern Idaho. I posted some black and white video links to a security camera in a Boise parking lot when we were discussing it in chat last night. Here is a color video from CNN. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/02/20/am.hotshots.meteor.cnn Alice |
