Being that Knight can be an addiction in itself. Co-dependency.

The song, Chet Baker's Unsung Swan Song (My Old Addiction), just grabbed me and held me riveted the first time I heard it. I bought the kd lang songbook just to be able to have the music and lyrics to David Wilcox's song. The meaning of addiction spreads out from drug/alcohol to being addicted to infatuations, etc. This line, for example:
"So when I try to lean just a little
For just a splash to cool my face
Ahh, that trickle, turns out fickle,
Fills my boat up five miles deep."

It's not safe to even try a taste of that old addiction.. or you drown. I've never had the chemical type addictions myself, but have seen others who have. My old addiction was the one of looking for the KISA (knight in shining armor).

Holy Cow, Alice, I couldn't believe it, the first time I heard Chet Baker. "Cool jazz" was definitely not something I payed a lot of attention to. Folk, blues, rock and classical have always been my loves, but when I heard Chet sing and play "Shadow of your smile" I was transfixed. The guy just BLEEDS NOTES! When I saw the very sad film about him "Let's Get Lost", my conversion was complete. Once again, how sad that an artist who gave so much had to suffer so much in order to give.

Chet Baker's Unsung Swan Song, by David Wilcox, recorded under the title My Old Addiction by kd lang, has led me to the magic of David Wilcox lyrics. I won't quote alot of the lyrics here, because of the copyright, but here is his website:

read the lyrics of Sex and Music on the new CD.
