Subject: Lyr Add: WHIPPOORWILL SONG From: harpgirl Date: 22 May 99 - 12:08 AM ...jm...I got this whippoorwill song in Mt. View, Arkansas... Whippoorwill Song Oh the stars on the silver moon are shining All around is the sweetness of the spring But I'm sad and in loneliness I'm pining For the one I shall never see again How I long for the day when I shall meet her Though it be where the angels sweetly sing She is mine and the thought of her grows sweeter When it's time for the whippoorwill to sing I remember the night she made the promise And these words said to me great joy did bring I'll be true and you know you'll find me courting When it's time for the whippoorwill to sing How I long for the day when I shall meet her Though it be where the angels sweetly sing She is mine and the thought of her grows sweeter When it's time for the whippoorwill to sing ...wish I had some more whippoorwill songs...anyone want to share one?...harpgirl |

Subject: RE: Name this song:whipporwill? From: Mudjack Date: 21 May 99 - 07:38 PM JM, I'm going to take a shot at suggesting going to Musi-cal web site and looking for Peter Rowan as I recall he having aa bluegrass album by that title. The Bluegrass sites can also connect you to Teter Rowan's music. I'm not smart enough to get you one of those Mj |

Subject: Name this song:whipporwill? From: jmhowe@sover,net Date: 21 May 99 - 10:55 AM Hi: Looking for name of this song and artist, and/or recording that I can find it on. Have been to two funerals lately in Vermont where a group called the Stockwell Brothers sang and played this with banjo's & mandolin..some lyrics below:
Listen to the call of the lonesome whippoorwill By the Way...this group.."Stockwell Brothers" seems to have been around for a long time in the bluegrass field and I have heard they did a stint in Washington, DC for a while...they have 2 recordings out...first called "Stobro" is terrific and new one (the name has gone out of my mind) is more update and less bluegrass but good...try them out. You won't be sorry...I sure wasn't...Marge Howe (a Vermont transplant, longing for my old Virginy home!) |
